The ToSeven M15 Compact Mid-Drive Interface

An ultra-compact 1.54-inch monochrome control hub engineered for streamlined handlebar mounting, precise FOC motor tuning, and resilient performance across ToSeven DM01 and DM02 mid-drives.
M15 Display Operation Manual
In modern electric bicycle conversions, rider ergonomics and handlebar space are critical considerations. The **ToSeven M15 Display** delivers full technical control over ToSeven mid-drive motors in an extremely lightweight, space-saving package. Operating as the physical interface to the motor’s Field-Oriented Control (FOC) vector drive, the M15 combines high-contrast telemetry, three distinct riding profiles, deep torque sensor calibration, and real-time diagnostic reporting directly to your fingertips

Section 1: Hardware Architecture & Electrical Specifications

Compact Handlebar Mounting and Sealed Electrical Design

Engineered for rugged outdoor usage, the M15 display houses essential electronic controls inside a durable, weather-resistant enclosure.

***1.54-Inch High-Contrast Monochrome Screen:** Features an easy-to-read 1.54-inch display that presents real-time speed, battery capacity, power consumption, assist levels, and trip distance without cluttering the handlebars.
***Flexible Mounting Position:** Designed with a versatile handlebar clamp that can be installed on either the **left or right side** of the handlebar to fit diverse cockpit layouts.
***Wide Operating Voltage Range:** Operates natively across **24V, 36V, and 48V DC** power systems with a low nominal current draw of **50 mA**.
***Backlit Silicone Buttons:** Features an integrated three-button control pad (UP, POWER, DOWN) constructed from translucent silicone rubber with internal LED backlighting for clear night operation.
***Weather-Sealed ABS Enclosure:** Built with high-strength ABS plastic rated at **IP54 ingress protection**, guarding internal logic against dust and splashing water.
* **Serial Communication Protocols:** Employs **UART and TS232 communication protocols** for fast, reliable data exchange with ToSeven motor controllers.

Section 2: Menu Architecture, Security & Vehicle Metrics

Protected Setup Menu Hierarchy and Vehicle Calibration

To safeguard critical system parameters from accidental modification during rides, the M15 utilizes a password-protected setup hierarchy[10][11].

***Power-On Sequence:** Activated by pressing and holding the **POWER** button for **3 seconds**.
***Protected Setup Menu Entry:** To access internal menus, boot the display and immediately press the **UP + DOWN** buttons simultaneously to open the password interface.
***Factory Password Security:** System configuration requires entering the default factory PIN **1234**.
***Vehicle Parameter Calibration:**
***Unit Selection:** Configurable for **Metric (km/h, km)** or **Imperial (mph, miles)** readouts.
***Rim Size (Wheel Diameter):** Adjustable from **6 inches to 30 inches** to guarantee accurate speedometer and odometer reporting.
***Auto-Power Off Delay:** Set automatic idle power-down timers between **3 and 15 minutes** to prevent battery depletion.
***Battery OCV Table:** Customize Open-Circuit Voltage (OCV) parameters to accurately map non-standard battery discharge curves.

Section 3: Riding Profiles, Power Assist Tuning & Special Modes

Precision Assist Tuning and Electronic Power Modes

The M15 interface provides technicians and riders with versatile riding profiles to balance range optimization against maximum hill-climbing power.

***Three Pre-Set Riding Modes:**
***ECO Mode:** Delivers smooth assist at maximum efficiency to achieve the longest possible cruising range.
***CITY Mode:** Provides uniform, balanced power output tailored for urban commuting.
***SPORT Mode:** Unlocks full motor power and immediate response for climbing steep inclines and off-road riding.
***Configurable Assist Levels:** Configurable from **1 to 8 assist levels**, plus a **Zero Level** where electric assist is completely disengaged while telemetry remains active.
***Specialized Drive Options:**
***Auto-Level (A):** Automatically modulates motor power and wheel speed relative to real-time bicycle velocity.
***Climbing Boost (C):** Delivers elevated motor torque when pedal sensors detect steep uphill resistance.
***Reverse Drive (R):** Drives the motor backwards at controlled low speeds for specialized vehicle maneuvering[10].
***Walk Assist & Cruise Control:** Includes a **6 km/h walk-boost mode** to help push heavy bikes uphill, as well as electronic cruise control functionality.

Section 4: Advanced Torque Sensor Calibration & Thermal Safeguards

Startup Calibration Protocol and Deep Parameter Tuning

The M15 display serves as a direct technician terminal for calibrating ToSeven’s torque-sensing mid-drives without external tuning hardware.

***Startup Zero-Point Torque Calibration:** On torque-sensing motor setups, the system performs an automatic zero-point calibration during boot-up.
***⚠️ Critical Rule:** The pedals and cranks **must remain entirely free of load or pressure** during startup and calibration to prevent incorrect voltage baseline recording.
***Torque Sensor Parameters:**
***Operating Modes:** Select **Sensitive** mode (activates when Net torque output voltage exceeds the startup threshold) or **Safe** mode (requires Net torque output voltage AND active pedal rotation).
***Voltage Thresholds:** Tune **ZeroVol** zero-point voltage (**100 mV to 2000 mV**), **MaxVol** output voltage (**1000 mV to 3300 mV**), and **StartupNetVol** net starting voltage (**200 mV to 2000 mV**).
***Pedal Angle & Smoothness Filters:** Fine-tune **KeepAngle** (**0° to 180°**), **MinOutCurrent** (**0 A to 10 A**), and signal **Filter** (**0 to 10**) for smooth pedal feel.
***Controller & Motor Over-Temperature Protection:**
* Configurable thermal protection start points (**50°C to 100°C**) and maximum limits (**60°C to 120°C**).
* Automatically restricts motor power output (e.g., limiting to 50% or 70% power) if operating temperatures exceed safe thresholds.

Section 5: System Safety, Diagnostics & Maintenance Protocols

On-Screen Diagnostics and Instant Error Detection

To maintain long-term reliability and protect hardware from electrical or mechanical damage, the M15 actively monitors system health.

***Real-Time Warning Flags:** Displays instant visual alerts on screen if an electrical anomaly occurs.
***Diagnostic Fault Coverage:** Immediately flags critical fault conditions, including:
***Communication Interrupted:** Detects loose or damaged EB-Bus communication cables between display and motor controller.
***Motor Blocked:** Warns of mechanical drivetrain obstructions or severe overload conditions.
***Controller Broken:** Identifies internal electrical overload or protection triggers.
***Emergency Cutoff Integration:** Integrates with EB-Bus magnetic brake sensors to instantly cut motor power when levers are squeezed, while back-pedaling provides a mechanical secondary motor cutoff on ToSeven systems.
